Katsuhiko Brian Sato

Katsuhiko Brian Sato

Born in Sendai in 1968. Self-taught, he picked up a brush at 25 and quickly gained popularity both at home and abroad. In 2001, after a long stretch in Tokyo playing drums for the Tokyo Rhythm Kings and getting his work published in a variety of magazines, he relocated back home to Sendai. Following the Great East Japan Earthquake, he focused more on addressing socio-political themes in his work and also branched out to three-dimensional art. Notable works include his signed Jane Birkin tarpaulin handbag.
